STREET IMPROVEMENTS

Council District 8 Sidewalk Improvements Project (Phase I)

BergCM provided construction management services for this innovative neighborhood sidewalk replacement project which repaired dangerous, broken sidewalks at over 100 locations in South Los Angeles. Sidewalk repairs are desperately needed throughout Los Angeles, but due to allotted funds held in limbo by pending slip and fall lawsuits, progress towards the goal of safe sidewalks remained at a standstill for many years.

Thankfully, Councilman Bernard Parks thought outside the box and committed over $500,000 in discretionary funds to entrust the Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI) to oversee an alternative means of repairing sidewalks in his district. LANI partnered with BergCM and through a competitive bidding process, selected a low bid contractor to perform all repairs and tree replacements at a significant savings in comparison to City labor services.

BergCM provided invaluable public relations services along with overseeing all construction activities on this high profile project which received significant media coverage. BergCM authored the winning nomination for the Western Council of Construction Consumers “Innovative Industry Solution Award” on the on behalf of the entire project team in 2014.

Phase I of this project completed in early 2015, with Phase II scheduled to begin in May 2015 with over 100 additional locations. BergCM is serving as CM for Phase II in addition to a new sidewalk repair program in Council District 10 for 140 locations which is currently underway.
