Union Ave. Overhead and Chester Ave. Undercrossing
These projects for the City of Bakersfield totaled approximately $5 million each and involved extensive coordination with Railroads Bakersfield, requiring a variety of detour roads to maintain city traffic flow. No claims were associated with them project. In particular, the Chester Ave. Undercrossing involved the complete shutdown of a major arterial street, work around live RR tracks with significant traffic, buried unidentified utilities. Construction required a railroad “shoofly” to route train traffic around the proposed grade separation structure. Once the structure was complete with train tracks, the shoofly was removed to allow construction of a pump house and storm drain storage structure within the roadway subsurface. Berg & Associates, Inc. provided full construction management and inspection services as Prime Consultant. Project was completed without any lost time safety incidents and no public safety incidents.
